Garage and shed doors around Pokolbin and Broke
Down Broke Road the doors get wider and the jobs get more interesting. Machinery sheds, barrel stores, staff quarters and the house garage, usually all on the one property, usually all wanting attention in the same visit. Pokolbin and Broke run on working sheds. Nearly everything out this way is a house on acreage, and the door doing the real work is a 4 or 5 metre roller with machinery behind it, not the domestic double. We spec, repair and service those big rollers as a trade of their own: heavier curtains, wind bracing on exposed faces, and guides that get cleared of dust before the dust wins. Dust, heat and the long dry
This is the dry side of an already dry valley, and the doors show it in a particular order: bottom seals perish first, then dust works into rollers and bearings, then the guides start to bind on the west-facing doors that cop the weather. None of it is dramatic until the day it is. A service catches the sequence early, which out here is the difference between a maintenance visit and a jammed shed at the wrong time of year.
